Leader of the Opposition and AAP leader Atishi took a sharp swipe at the BJP-led Delhi government, accusing it of failing to deliver on its pre-election promises, particularly the Rs 2,500 financial aid for women.

Speaking ahead of the Delhi Assembly’s Budget Session on Monday, Atishi expressed skepticism about the ruling party’s commitments.

“BJP made grand promises before elections, and we hope they fulfill them in this budget session. The first and most crucial promise was that women in Delhi would receive Rs 2,500 on March 8. Till today, even the registration for the scheme hasn’t started. It’s clear that PM Modi lied and betrayed the people of Delhi,” she told ANI.

Atishi also questioned the selective tabling of the CAG reports, demanding that all pending reports be presented at once.

“If the Speaker has 14 CAG reports, why are they being presented in episodes? The people of Delhi deserve full transparency,” she remarked.

One of the key reports to be tabled this session is the third CAG report on the functioning of the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC).

Meanwhile, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta began the session with a ceremonial ‘Kheer’ preparation, marking the start of financial proceedings.

“For the first time, such a ceremony has been held in Delhi. ‘Kheer ki mithas se budget.’ It has been offered to Lord Ram and will now be served to the people who contributed their suggestions,” she said.

The BJP-led Delhi government, which returned to power after 27 years, is set to present its first state budget on March 25.

The session, scheduled from March 24 to March 28, will include debates on water shortages, drainage issues, and infrastructure concerns. Other key events include:

  • Question Hour, where legislators will question ministers on governance matters.
  • Special Mentions under Rule-280, allowing members to raise urgent public issues.
  • Election of financial committees, a crucial step in Delhi’s financial governance.

The budget session is expected to shape the BJP’s governance strategy and address critical policy and financial concerns of the National Capital Territory of Delhi.
